Catching Up

It's been a minute since my last post, summer took over and before I knew it September arrived.an here we are in the middle of September, my absolute favorite time of the year when the light softens and the days begin with a crispness in the air.

For the past week I've been in France participating in an art residency at the Chateau de Cerisey in Asse-le-Boisne, organized by Atelier Artist in Residence. There are eleven artists, writers, painters, digital concept artists and photographers in various stages of their careers and age ranges. As with any new experience there was a certain amount of trepidation on my part doubting if I would fit in and wondering if I could last two weeks so far from home. None of my fears have come true. The group is supportive, fun, and willing to share their experience generously.

Our home is a 12th century chateau, (at least a portion is dated to that period), the remainder of the chateau blends seamlessly with it's architecture, outbuildings and landscape, it is a gorgeous, peaceful backdrop of our creative endeavors. The painting studio is a stone barn with a finsihed loft where large oak beams, exposed stone walls and brick enhance the space with it's enormous sky lights and windows. Myself and two other painters share the space. Working alongside these talented artists has inspired and enlightened me in ways I cannot describe other than to say my heart is full.

The work that I have undertaken is an exploration on staining raw canvas. Learning how I can manipulate the paint, push, pull and work differently than I typically do. So far, it's been successful. I've made several smaller pieces that I intend to mount and have strainer bars attached so that they may be float framed if I choose to. These are a momento of the residency and my journery as an artist, marking a period of growth and expansion and will further inspire me to continue to pursue curiosity in future works.

Before I left on my journey I finished two large scale works for Steidel Contemporary in Florida for their winter season. They were challenging! But I can happily report that the gallery director loved them and is excited to share them this winter at the Palm Beach Exhibition. As soon as I return home, I'll continue moving forward on some "smaller" works to accompany the large paintings, (78x75, We Should Be Dancing and 75x69, Playground), they will be shipped unstretched at the end of November.

As always, thank you for your continued support, it is very much appreciated. Have questions or comments? I'd love to hear from you!

Be well,

Angelique
